Installing A Vinyl Fence? Simple Tips To Protect Your Investment

Blog

If you're installing a vinyl fence this year, it's time to plan for the maintenance and upkeep. Vinyl fencing is one of the best options you can choose for your residential fencing. Vinyl fencing is easy to install. This material is also durable and versatile. That means you can use vinyl fencing anywhere in your yard. But, you do need to get on a good maintenance routine for your vinyl fencing. With the right maintenance, your vinyl fencing will last for many years. If you're not sure how to care for vinyl fencing, read the list below. Here are some tips to help you extend the life of your new vinyl fence.

Keep the Vinyl Clean

When it comes to caring for your vinyl fencing, it's important to stick to a cleaning routine. Vinyl fences don't need to be sanded or painted. But, they do need to be kept clean. In most cases, you can remove dust with an ordinary garden hose. For caked-on dirt or mud, you should wash your vinyl fence using a mild detergent. Wash the fencing with your sudsy solution and then rinse clean with your garden hose. This process will keep your vinyl fencing looking brand-new.

Stop Mold and Mildew

Mold and mildew can pose a problem for your vinyl fencing, especially during the rainy season. Luckily, there are easy ways to stop mold and mildew from becoming a problem. If you see mold or mildew growing on your vinyl fencing, add some vinegar or bleach to your cleaning solution. Instead of using a soft cloth, use a scrub brush to clean the areas contaminated with mold and mildew. Follow this process whenever you see mold and mildew popping up on your fence.

Create a Shallow Path

If you're going to place gravel as a ground covering, be sure to create a shallow path around the vinyl fencing. Gravel can cause damage to your vinyl fencing. That's especially true if it gets stuck under the vinyl slats. One way to prevent the damage is to keep a few inches cleared between the gravel and the vinyl slats.

Clear Limbs and Shrubs

When it comes to protecting your vinyl fencing, you want to prevent damage caused by trees and shrubs. One way to do that is to keep trees and shrubs pruned. That way, limbs and branches don't brush up against the vinyl fencing. Keeping your trees pruned will also prevent branches from falling on your fencing during a wind storm.
